Different Kinds of Verbs

Action Verbs Transitive Verbs: Directs the action to a receiver of the action Example: The captain rang the bell. (what “rang” – the bell) The receiver of the action is a noun or pronoun Intransitive Verbs: Expresses action about the subject of the sentence but does not direct the action towards another noun/pronoun. Example: The captain rang for dinner. There is no receiver of the action.
