HALLOWEEN

Halloween is a holiday in the United States. It´s the night of all saints 31 st October. For many people in North America it´s very popular holiday.

History This holiday is of Celtic origin. Kelts celebrated Halloween as last day of the year.

Symbol of halloween It´s a tradicion to have a jack-o´-lantern. A jack-o´-lantern is a pumpkin with a face. Children buy a nice orange pumpkin and cut some face. Then they take a candle and put it inside.

Halloweens customs Children don´t study during this holiday. In the afternoon they have a party at school. They dance, drink, eat and so on. In the evening they go to the streets with their friend.

Children usually wear a frightening costumes and masks. They dress as witches, skeletons, ghosts, mummies, frankensteins monsters or anything frightening.

Children visit their friends and neighbors houses. They go from house to house and yell: „Trick or treat“. The neighbors come to their doors to see the monsters and give them sweets.

But when they don´t give some sweets, children play a trick on the neighbors. For example, they draw something on the door and on the window with toothpaste or they hang toilet paper in neighbors trees.
