6 of 30 The Bible

7 of 30 Using the Bible Christians will read the Bible to help them through troubled times and to guide them on any issues of morality which they might face. They believe that the Bible comes from God and will try to follow the example of good people in the Bible, particularly Jesus. Some Christians believe that every word in the Bible is the word of God and should be taken literally. They believe that God created the world in six days and rested on the seventh. They do not believe that the laws which God gave in the Bible should be changed to fit in with modern society – they are God’s words and so should remain unchanged forever.

8 of 30 Other Christians believe that not every word in the Bible should be taken literally. For instance, they would say that they do not believe that God created the world in six days, the important message for them is that God created; how it happened is not really important. The Bible is used during Christian worship. Passages are read during regular church services and also on special occasions such as weddings and funerals. Many Christians read their Bible daily, or go to Bible groups where they can read and discuss passages with other Christians.
