Clickers Alan Green Assistant Professor of Economics

Is this a typical lecture?

That’s more like it…

What are clickers?

Using clickers leads to more engaging and effective lectures. A.Strongly Agree B.Agree C.Neutral D.Disagree E.Strongly Disagree

Implementing clickers into my classes will require me to re-do most of my course materials. A.Strongly Agree B.Agree C.Neutral D.Disagree E.Strongly Disagree

A simple clicker implementation… Use Socrative When lecturing, ask questions via Socrative rather than simply out loud.

…can yield strong results Last year I taught 4 sections of introductory economics at Lander University. I used clickers in 3 sections. All lectures, homeworks and exams were the same. Students in the clicker sections scored 7-8% higher on the post test, controlling for all student characteristics. Better results with practice?

The purpose of class time is: A.To convey information B.To practice working homework problems C.To challenge assumptions D.To apply course materials E.To check Facebook

Clickers at Stetson Sold in the bookstore, used in multiple classes. Seamlessly integrated with Powerpoint. Students can be identified in saved class data.

Is this an incredibly engaging presentation? A.Yes! B.No! C.Maybe?

“it is not the technology but the pedagogy that matters.” -Eric Mazur Use clickers for feedback, for peer instruction and for engagement.

Any Questions?
