HAPPY THURSDAY! “There are always three speeches, for every one you actually gave. The one you practiced, the one you gave, and the one you wish you gave.” -Dale Carnegie 5/15/14 Learning target: Gather information about plot/character/setting in Siddhartha and Gather information about your peer’s Senior Project experiences Please take out your reading notebooks and Siddhartha books! (no need to write down LT today)

Agenda5/15/14  Journal Assignment Reminder  Tardy Checks  Practice Senior Project Speech Protocols  Practice Senior Project Board Speeches/Reading time Homework: 1. Work on your practice senior board speech (make sure you know when you go! Schedule is on the blog) 2. Work on your reading journals (check orange calendar for due dates)

Journal Assignment Reminder I. Explain the significance of each of the chapter titles in the assigned section. II. Write a question (one that can’t be answered simply) to ask the class during discussion for each chapter in the reading section. III. Choose a passage/quote from each chapter in the section, copy it and cite the page number, and write a short response showing your thinking about the passage.

Tardy Checks  Three levels:  “Probation Notice”: when you’re over three tardies at the checkpoint.  “Teacher Detention”: when you’ve already received a probation notice, and then get another tardy. You owe 30 minutes during conference period/lunch (schedule with me).  “Tardy Referral”: When you’ve already been warned, and done a teacher detention, and then got another tardy. Discipline referral submitted to Mr. Jacques for follow up.

Practice Board Speech Protocols  Giving your speech?  You’re welcome to practice coming in from outside the room with your stuff, saying hello, and then starting to set up.  We don’t have a good air mouse…sorry! Options are to move the mouse to the other side of the computer, or to ask for a clicker helper (just don’t talk to them…point or something )  You can have your own timer, you can move around stuff as needed, use the podium, or not.  Good luck! You’ll do great!

Listening to speeches?  All the basic reminders about good listening behaviors!  You’ll grade at least one speech per day.  Please take really good notes-the more feedback you can give the presenter the better!  If you’re grading, then you don’t need to ask questions (unless you want to!)  Other viewers should ask questions after the speech is done  All listeners can provide constructive feedback to the presenter after the question period is over

Question/Reading Time!  Anyone have any questions about what they’ve read so far?  Reading time- staying in our seats for today’s reading, please!
