Evidence from Prophecy “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isa. 7: Years before Matt. 1:22-23

22. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Matt. 1:22-23

“A Sign”  Ordinary birth would not be a sign  Something unusual  Something supernatural

Who is the virgin in Isa.7:14 ?  Not the wife of Isaiah  Not the wife of Ahaz  Not a dual fulfillment Mary Matt. 1:22-23

Virgin KJV ~ Young Woman RSV Chaste Pure Unchaste Impure 6 times = Unmarried maiden Greek = “Parthenos” - virgin

Evidence from New Testament Matthew Matthew 1 = “begat” 39 Times V. 16 = Does not use the word V. 20 = Conceived of Holy Spirit Was Matthew Inspired ??

Evidence from New Testament Mark No account of birth Starts with public ministry No contradictions Mk. 14:61-62 Jesus claimed he was the Christ

Evidence from New Testament Luke Told that she would have a son “How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?” Luke 1:34 V. 35 “called the Son of God”

“And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,” Luke 3:23

Evidence from New Testament John Does not expressly mention birth Begins with pre-existence of Christ with God

1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. John 1:1-2 ============================ 14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

If Jesus was the son of Joseph how could he be the “Only begotten from the father”? Jn.3:16 Only through the virgin birth could the divine and human natures of Christ be united in one person.

Gospels  Matthew & Luke = Virgin Birth  Mark & John  Do not contradict  Use language that assumes the virgin birth

5. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6. Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7. But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Phil. 2:5-7

Gal.4:4 NKJV “But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law”  Kept genealogy from father  Born of a woman  Virgin Birth

Was Unique – no other like it Jesus existed before his mother Important because…  Authority of scriptures  Deity of Christ  Christ as Savior

 If not true then Christ is not supernatural  If virgin birth falls, then down goes Christianity  Gospel rests upon the doctrine of the birth of Christ to a virgin !

 I believe the Bible account of the virgin Birth of Jesus ! Most Americans Believe in Virgin Birth of Jesus
