Kuwait Integrated Environmental Information Network (KIEIN) Phase I,II and III Dr. Hamdy El-Gamily Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), Kuwait National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS), Egypt

The project’s strategic objective is to contribute to Kuwait sustainable development program through the establishment of a National Environmental Information System to support decision/policy makers and researchers. The project’s strategic objective is to contribute to Kuwait sustainable development program through the establishment of a National Environmental Information System to support decision/policy makers and researchers. It aims at establishing a state-of-the-art Geographic Information System (GIS) database for terrestrial, coastal, marine and atmospheric compartments to facilitate the optimum utilization of available relevant data, and to enhance decision support activities in the field of sustainable development.

Project Start n Review Plans Contracting Use Consultants Kick-off Meeting

Systems Analysis n Analysis of existing systems n User needs assessment n Data evaluation n Evaluation of existing IT n Assessment of regulations and standards n Analysis of existing personnel n Identification of required functions and tools

Systems Design n Conceptual database design n Logical database design n Physical database design n Applications design

Conceptual Database Design At the conceptual level, the main concern is with specifying unified description of the entire database which is implementation independent. Outputs: The Entity-Category- Relationship (E-C-R) Diagram

Logical Database Design At the logical level of the database design, the appropriate data model for the database is chosen and its rules are enforced. Outputs: Database contents Layers Description Data Model: RDBMS

Physical Database Design The physical level of database design is concerned with the actual storage structure for data and with the algorithmic details of storing and searching on hardware devices. Outputs: Detailed design and data dictionary Data conversion specifications: data format, naming convention, coordinates system, symbol sets, etc. System configuration and Structure
