Impulse Control Disorders- Discharging Mounting Tension That can’t be found anywhere else

Intermittent Explosive Disorder Discrete episodes of failure to resist aggressive impulses that result in serious assaultive acts or destruction of property The response is out of proportion to the trigger Not another mental, medical or substance condition No proven tx, but meds may help

Other forms Kleptomania- stealing Pyromania-fire starting Pathological Gambling Trichotillamania- pulling out hair NOS

Identifiable stressor (occurs within 3 months) Stress is more than expected If not, think phase of life, normal reaction or V code Significant impairment Not another disorder, not bereavement Does not persist for 6 months after stressor stops If longer than 6 months AFTER END OF STRESSOR, think acute stress, PTSD, or other Mental disorder
