Chief Executive Makes sure federal laws are followed. Plans the national budget Appoints federal officials like cabinet members, ambassadors, and Supreme court judges. Can pardon people for crime against the U.S. Issues executive orders that do not have to go through Congress.

Chief Of State Makes Treaties. Communicates with foreign leaders and diplomats. Proposes foreign policy.

Legislative Leader Proposes new laws. Can veto a bill passed by Congress. Encourages Congress to pass new laws.

Chief Diplomat Represents the U.S. to citizens and foreign countries. Greets and host parties for foreign officials. Makes public appearances and performs ceremonial duties.

Commander in chief of the Armed Forces Appoints high-ranking military officials. Control the size of the armed forces. Sends troops to fight but cannot declare war.

Political Party Leader Campaigns for party candidates. Supports important party issues.
