Role Models What is a role model? Why should I care? How do I become a role model?

What is a Role Model? “Someone who another person admires and tries to be like.” “True role models are those who possess the qualities that we would like to have and those who have affected us in a way that makes us want to be better people.” From: Webster and Teachup

Types of Role Models Are there different types of role models? Yes, there are two different kinds! – Good Role Models – Bad Role Models

Good Role Models Good role models have the following qualities – Passion and Ability to Inspire – Clear set of Values – Commitment to Community – Selflessness and Acceptance of Others – Ability to Overcome Obstacles From: Roots of Action

Bad Role Models What do bad role models do? – Only care about their own goals – Have unclear values – Are committed to themselves – Selfish and do not accept others – Easily defeated

Why You Should Care Do you have younger siblings? Do you have friends? Are there students younger than you in your school? All of these people may look up to do. Don’t you want to set a good example?

Can I be Someone’s Role Model? People choose who their role model is, but you can set a great example for people around you and try to be a good role model for others. If your actions and comments are positive and show the traits described above, you are on your way to becoming a good role model!

How Do I Become a Good Role Model? Work on developing the traits mentioned above. E6o E6o Stop video at 3 minutes.
