Arab –Israeli Conflict Why no peace?

Overview Since the creation of Israeli in 1948, there has been continuous conflict with Arabs and neighboring nations Most neighboring nations are at an uneasy peace with Israel. Most Arabs and Israelis want a “2 State solution” – a peaceful nation of Palestine and a nation of Israel

Main issues preventing this Religious extremism on both sides. Extreme Palestinian wants Israel wiped from the map, gone. This is our land, get out. Extremely religious jews view Israel as the biblical homeland, and belonging to jews only. Both groups have been violent against the other side. Settlement will be difficult with these extremes.

Arab Refugee problem Arab refugees that have been forced from their homes during the numerous conflicts want a “right to return”. They want there land back. Israelis claim that you left, you are not getting your land back.

The occupied territories Golan Heights, the West Bank and the Gaza strip are lands that are dominated by Palestinians, but have been controlled by the Israeli army. Palestinians want to run these territories as a state Israelis view these areas as the home base of terrorism

Israeli settlements in the West Bank Extremist jews have been “settling” in the West Bank. Think Yonni from video. They view this are their biblical home land. Palestinians view this as their land, and please get out. Some Israeli governments have promoted settlement.

Arab Terrorism Arab suicide bombers have struck fear into Israel by blowing up cafes, buses in Israel. This is what all Israelis want to end. They view this as priority #1. Stop killing us, and maybe you can have a nation of your own. Many Palestinians feel powerless, and with an islamic promise of paradise for dying in the name of the religious, many are swayed to become a bomber. They are doing something. They become heroes in death.

Israeli actions to stop violence Multiple check points. The army has set these up and checks for documented people. Think of Hiba on her way home. Huge pain for Palestinians. Israelis have built a “Peace Fence” which separates Israel from Palestinians. Has divided people. Didn’t follow 1967 agreement. Palestinians hate the “peace fence”. Israelis call it necessary.
