WHAT IS WATER? Water is the resource that covers over 70% of the earth’s surface and is very important for both people and the environment.

WATER POLLUTION Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies, example lakes, rivers, ground water and oceans. These impurities have a detrimental effect on water quality, and can be harmful to living organisms and aquatic life.

SOURCES OF WATER POLLUTION There are 2 sources of water pollution : Point Source Non-Point Source

TYPES OF WATER POLLUTION Surface Water pollution Groundwater pollution Microbiological Chemicals Nutrients Suspended Matter Oxygen Depletion

CAUSES OF WATER POLLUTION Sewage and waste matter Industries Oil pollution Atmospheric Deposition Marine Dumping Radioactive waste Underground Storage Leakages Global Warming Eutrophication

DANGERS OF WATER POLLUTION Heavy metals from industrial processes affect marine & human life Industrial waste are harmful to aquatic animals and subsequently people Infectious diseases are spread through sewage waste in drinking water Too much organic matter causes an increase of aerobic algae Acid Rain Suspended particles reduces quality of drinking water

DANGERS OF WATER POLLUTION

PREVENTION OF WATER POLLUTION Conservation of water STOP Littering Reduction in use of pesticides and fertilizers

TREATMENT OF WATER POLLUTION Industrial Treatment Dentrification

TREATMENT OF WATER Ozone Wastewater Treatment Septic Tanks

So we ought to take the initiative and stop polluting our waters!
