Fire Safety in the Theater By: Haley Patton Patti Ott Beaney Corral Keonisha Brown Teo

Fire Safety Here is a list of basic safety equipment to help prevent a fire in a theater. Fire Curtains Fire Doors Fire Blankets Fire Extinguishers Fire Hoses Automatic Sprinklers Fire Escapes Emergency Stairs Fire Lanes Flame Treatment All these important objects are great to have in a theatre to prevent fires, and to help stop fires.

What the Safety Objects Do Fire Curtain- fire-proof barrier that closes off the stage space from the seating area in a proscenium theatre in the event of a fire. Fire Doors- fireproof doors that either automatically close when fire alarm is triggered, or remain closed except when a person is entering or exiting. Fire Blankets-an exit from the space clearly marked to be an unobstructed path out of the theatre/building. Fire Extinguishers-portable tanks (usually pressurized) containing a substance capable of extinguishing a small fire. Rated by type of fire they are capable of extinguishing. Fire Hoses- Full size fire hoses permanently installed in key locations and fed by city water supply or standpipe. Automatic Sprinklers- Devices that automatically open during a fire to spray water on the affected part of the building. Fire Escapes- Structure added to the outside of a building to allow persons to exit in the event of a fire. Emergency Stairs- Stairways inside the building intended for use in the event of an evacuation.  Fire Lanes- Areas set aside to always be clear for emergency vehicles and equipment. Flame Treatments- means of rendering material fire-proof or flame resistant.

Fire Prevention in the Theater Don’t have any lit objects or items that produce a large amount of heat or any type of flame. Such as cigarettes, pipes, dangerous lighting, and much more. Maintain electrical outlets and wiring. Try to have those objects inspected every month or so.
