Great assistance from “living with a High Purpose” in the 2013 Zondervan Pastor’s Annual

Many people drift through life without a purpose Each of us should face the question, “Why am I living?” We might ask ourselves, “What am I living for?” Is it possible we are just going through the motions with no real purpose to our existence?

Others may set their goals or aim in life on something significant and this becomes their motivation to move and the discipline that controls them Paul’s goal in life was to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ Phil 1:20; Rom 14:8 Paul found tremendous success in his work due to the high purpose he placed on it and the dedication given to reaching that purpose or goal

It adds excitement to our life It helps us determine our priorities It helps to eliminate pursuits of those things that are of lesser importance It causes us to give the very best of our time, effort, and energies It will cause us to trust in God if we truly want to perform to the best of our abilities This helps promote our prayer life This emphasizes the importance of obedience This encourages to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit

Christ initiates good purposes for our life (Phil 1:6) Christ is to be the model for our lives (Phil 2:5-8; 1 Cor 11:1) Christ needs to become the supreme aim of our lives (Phil 3:12-14)

For some, to live is to gain knowledge For some, to live is to be great in athletics For some, to live means to have great wealth For some, to live is to gain great power For some, to live means to find great pleasure For Christians, to truly live is to make Christ the goal and aim of our life Christ should be the great reward of our lives (Phil 3:8)

We must develop hope based on faith (Phil 1:19-20; Heb 11:1) We must take advantage of the fellowship and partnership prayer provides (Phil 1:19) Paul had a great faith and a positive hope, and he was encouraged in them because of the prayers of the Philippian Christians on his behalf We must dedicate ourselves to serving Christ and ministering to the needs of others (Phil 2:25-30)

We can discover the joy of living a life with a purpose if we allow Jesus Christ to have the place that belongs to Him both in our heart, and in our life
