Probability WebQuest

Introduction "Heads, you go first; tails, I do." "I need to roll a seven to win." "If I can spin and land on a green slot the jackpot is mine." How many times have you played a game and hoped to win? What is the probability of winning? The purpose of this WebQuest is to introduce you to some interesting problems and learn about probable outcomes. At the conclusion of the WebQuest you will be able to explain why some choices are better than others.

Task * Your task is to solve and analyze several problems about probability. After you have completed this task and understand how probability works, design a game or activity that will show others what you have learned.

Your Final Project Will Include: Activity 1: A tally sheet showing the results of coin flipping Activity 2: A printed chart showing your results while playing the Monty Hall game. Activity 3: A graph showing the amount of each color found in a bag of M&M's candy plus the percentage of each color Activity 4: A probability game that you created Activity 5: Answers to the Skill Level and Concept Level questions

Activity 1: 1.Predict how many times a coin will land on heads if you flip it 50 times 2. Create a Tally Sheet using the computer and print it out. (you should create a column for heads and a column for tails, as well as a spot to write what your prediction was and what the actual total was) 3. Flip your coin 50 times and record the results

Activity 2 Go to this Game: Play the Game: Monty Knows Version Create a chart, using Word or Excel, which shows how many times you played and how many times you won the car. Find the Percent of times you won and show it on your chart. Play as many times as you’d like! (at least 10 games)

Activity 3: 1.Go to the M&M's: In the Bag Graphing Activity and complete the assignment.M&M's: In the Bag Graphing Activity 2.Create a circle graph showing your findings. 3.Eat the M&M’s (This is the best part!)

Activity 4 1.Create your own probability game that we can play in class. 2.You may use internet resources to come up with ideas for your game. 3.Type and print out the directions to your game and have the materials that you need ready on the due date.
