Analysis and Modeling System Breakout Create a semi-automated system for analyzing data and executing models that provides documentation, archiving, and versioning of the analyses, models, and their outputs. General agreement on the goals and design document, but need for more details, further thought about use cases Analysis and modeling system needs to capitalize on existing systems Detailed evaluation/experimentation with PtolemyII Can Ptolemy be used in ‘batch mode’, without a GUI, for execution Create an EML Data source agent for Ptolemy Create an SAS/Matlab/R engine for Ptolemy Get 1 or more ecologists to develop some models in Ptolemy Continued inquiry into Discovery NET Invite Ptolemy and Discovery Net investigators to May meeting Need to obtain a representative suite of data and models from BEAM to use to analyze analytical needs data could be provided via EcoGrid eventually Utilizes SMS services extensively

EcoGrid needs AMS will need to: Read metadata and data from EcoGrid Write metadata and data to EcoGrid Store and retrieve analytical step descriptions in EcoGrid Query EcoGrid for community-created steps Query EcoGrid nodes for computational, storage and network capabilities to use in optimizing execution performance Distribute computational jobs to suitable EcoGrid nodes (via globus?)

Products SW1: Metadata language for formal description of analyses (MoML, Monarch, etc) SW2: Metadata language for the formal description of data and model semantics (Eco 2 CL) SW3: Server-side system for execution of analyses and models SW4: Server-side system for processing semantic metadata SW5: Client interface for creating and executing analyses and models

Milestones and deliverables April 1: Finish hiring (SDSC, NCEAS, KU) June 1: Experimental analysis system based on Ptolemy interfaced with EcoGrid
