 Read large quantities  Understand formats  Know the difference between different types of written materials  Be able to tell the difference between a descriptive paper and opinion essay  Be able to decode texts for class; understand the key concepts terms  Be able to reread material in order to understand deeper meanings to analyze texts.  Be expected to read above and beyond the minimum assigned materials and investigate a topic on their own by independent reading.

 Expected to write extensively in a moderately short period  Need to know how to:  Prewrite  How to edit  How to rewrite a piece before submitting it  Rewrite it again after it has been submitted once and the professor returns it with comments  Need to be able to:  present arguments clearly  substantiate each point  use the basics of style manual when constructing a paper  Free of grammatical, spelling and usage errors

 Understand the basic concepts, principals and techniques of algebra  Learn concepts at a deep level  Understand what it means to actually comprehend mathematical concepts  Understand more than formulaic of mathematics  Apply conceptual understandings in order to extract a problem from a context to solve math problems

 Engage texts  Produce well-written, well-organized and well supported work products in oral and written formatted  Understand the English foundations:  Reading Comprehension and literature  Writing and editing  Information gathering  Analysis, critique and connections  Build vocabulary and word analysis skills (including roots and derivations)  Need to use techniques such as strategic reading that will help them read and understand a wide range of nonfiction and technical texts.  Understand key points

 Use the scientific method (students learn to think like a scientist).  Communication convention  scientists follow the empirical evidence used to draw conclusions  Conclusions are to challenge & interpret

 Entail a range of subject areas each with its own content base and analytical techniques and conventions  Scientific methods are common across the social sciences and emphasize the skills of interpreting sources, evaluating evidence and competing claims, and understanding themes and the overall flow  Theories and concepts are used to order and structure all of the detail that often overwhelms students and help them learn mental scaffolds

 Second-language study is communicating effectively with and receive communication from speakers of another language in authentic cultural contexts.  Learning another language requires the learner to understand the cultures from which the language arises and which it resides, and use the language to communicate accurately.  Second-language proficiency can improve learning in other disciplines, such as English, history, and art, and expand professional, personal, and social opportunities.

 The arts refer to subject as areas including art history, dance, music, theater, visual arts, and humanities.  Students who come to understand themselves as instruments of communication and expression who demonstrate mastery.

 What is the passage trying to tell me? - The passage is teaching us what we need to know to be prepared for our collage classes, and tells us about each of them. It also tells us to be focused, not procrastinate, and what to study and learn.  What are some key facts that we need to know? - Don't wait to do stuff, procrastination will kill you. It also gives us facts about collage classes and what each one is about
