WEATHER Watching BY: Joshua Shoderu Class:709

Problem Question Can I predict the weather based on the weather temperatures recently?

Hypothesis Based on the weather temperatures recently I can predict the weather for next week.

PURPOSE The purpose of the experiment was to find how temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind speed, and wind direction affects weather. Also to prove that by observing weather patterns it is possible to predict the weather.

Weather Terms  CLOUDS Are masses of water droplets or ice crystals that hang in the troposphere over the earth.  Air Mass Is a large body of air that has a certain temperature and amount of moisture.   Air Pressure The measure of the weight of air pressing down on a given area of Earth’s surface.   Wind Speed The measure of how fast the wind is blowing.

MATERIALS 1 liter soda bottle Food coloring (blue, green, or red works best) Straw (preferably glass tubing that fits in the rubber stopper) Marker

Procedures Of Making My Thermometer 1.Fill 1-liter bottle to the top with cold tap water. Add eight drops of food coloring. 2.Roll some modeling clay into a small ball about 25mm in diameter. Then roll it out so that it forms a cylinder about the length and diameter of a pencil. Flattens the pencil shape clay into a thick ribbon. (A rubber stopper that fits snugly into the bottle is preferable). Wrap the clay ribbon around the mid point of a straw. 3.Place the straw into the bottle and use the clay to seal off the bottle. 4.Press the clay plug into the neck of the bottle far enough to force the water level up into the straw so that it can be seen. 5.Mark the initial water level on the straw. As the temperature goes up, the water will expand and rise the water level above this point; as temperature goes down the water will contract and lower the water level below the initial level.

Analyze Questions What data does you’re your instrument provide? My instrument reads the temperature. How does your instrument work? When the temperature goes up the water will expand and rise the water level. When the temperature goes down the water will contract and lower the water level.

The Debate Between Winter & Summer Which One Is Better ? The Debate Between Which One Is Better ? Winter & Summer The Debate Between Winter & Summer Which One Is Better ?

Summer Most people love summer because of the warm days and the refreshing taste of the ice cream coming right from the ice cream truck. But there is more to summer than that. You can open the windows and get fresh air in your house without freezing to death. You can play games outside. You can swim at a pool, a river, a lake, or the ocean. You can take a relaxing drive around the countryside without having to put on big puffy coats or snow boots or worry about dying in a blizzard if you get car troubles. You can wear lightweight, comfortable clothing. You can spend a lazy afternoon watching a football game. You can go surfing or swimming. You can skateboard. You can go to school for summer session if you want, or you can work.

Winter Most people hate winter because of getting hit with freezing wind in the face or walking outside and getting your socks wet while trying to jump over a puddle. But there is a bright side. Looking at fresh snow is always nice. You can bundle up as much as you need to stay warm. People usually reads more during winter. Indoor hobbies get some time and attention. It’s much easier to get warmer than cool down.

Cold Weather Highlights You can sleep better in colder weather. Also there is less bugs flying around than in the summer. animals get a chance to hibernate. And there are special holidays in the winter like Christmas, thanksgiving and new years.

Survey Results Among Bklyn Middle- Schoolers

Summary I don’t really think that one is better because each of them have a purpose. But if I had to choose, it would be Summer. Sources c6c.jpg?v=0 c6c.jpg?v=0
