Terrestrial Navigation

How to navigate (move) Terrestrial navigation is the ability to navigate or move on earths surface using known objects. Like landmarks (stop signs, buildings) when explained how to get somewhere.

How would you tell someone to get to the Nice and Easy in Brewerton, from the high school? Turn right on route 11 (south) continue for 7 miles, go over the bridge. Continue for another mile stop at light. Turn left at light continue ¾ mile on left.

Polaris Polaris Astrolabe North Star Measures how far North you are in the northern hemisphere Angle of Polaris equals your latitude. Astrolabe Instrument used to measure the angle of a star.

How to find Polaris

Earths magnetic field Earth is like a giant bar magnet. These fields can be used to locate north and south using a compass.
