A computer graphic investigation of a possible mechanisim for the origin of planetary motion Russell Lowke CSCIE-236, Final Project, May 25th 2005
Physical Model Assume Sun has a large magnetic field B Sun and Planet have net electrostatic charges Planet ejected from Sun at a large velocity, similar to a Solar Flare
Forces on a planet Gravitational
Forces on a planet Electrostatic
Forces on a planet Magnetic Magnetic force is perpendicular to the motion of the planet, causing the planets motion to curve
Sun’s magnetic field For ejection from the north pole of the sun, magnetic field is parallel to motion of planet, so there is no curving force. For ejection at equator of sun, magnetic field is perpendicular to motion of planet, so there is a strong curving force, creating the possibility of an orbiting planet.
