Learning goals I will be able to explain what human resource management (HRM) is. I will be able to explain the purpose of the human resource department. I will be able to explain why it is important for companies to have HR departments. I will be able to explain the negative aspects of functions of the HR department.

Human resource management (hrm) Basic goal: build organizational performance capacity by raising human capital and to ensure that highly capable and enthusiastic people are always available. 3 major responsibilities: Attracting a quality workforce Developing a quality workforce Maintaining a quality workforce

Purpose of hr department It is responsible for organization of people in the entire Company Plan for future ventures and objectives involving people in the Company. Work in a way that best supports the accomplishment of the organization's goals

FUNCTIONS: Human resource department Workforce planning Recruitment and redundancy Planning the number and type of employees needed in the future evaluation of ability and competency of potential employees in relation to what the Company needs. Training Compensation and benefits creates training programs and conducts training for new hires and existing employees. including health and dental insurance, long-term care or disability programs Employee Relations Legal Responsibilities involves employee participation in different aspects of organizational activities. interpreting and enforcing employment and labor laws

Discussion question Why are these functions important for the whole company?

Negative aspects Ineffective Recruitment—Unorganized and poorly planned hiring practices may lead to the employment of unqualified and inept workers. Problems in Remuneration—In the process of trying to motivate members of staff to perform better, the Human Resource may make deals that eventually cause problems. Problems in Planning—Sometimes the HR Department can employ people who may not contribute towards organizational principles.

Discussion question How can the company minimize the negation aspects of the functions of HR department?
