Power In Partnership Ltd Working in conjunction with: Halton Housing Trust Learners at work

Case Study Young People Gain skills with Halton Housing Trust Power In Partnership tackle NEET ( Not in Education and Training) issues by linking with Halton Housing Trust Delivering training and improving job prospects for those gaining level one qualifications and two references Excellent example of Social return model and evidences Best Value procuring local social enterprise (PIP)for local jobs.

Objectives Reduce NEET figures by 20% Give each young person 2 Level One Quals Give each young person 2 references in the World Of Work to add to CV Improve Void turnaround therefore affecting local social Housing availability. Improve gardens of Void premises and assist those most vulnerable in the Community

How We Achieve these results PIP believes Everyone Can “Learn To Learn” We “wrap around” their interests such as Art, Music, Motorbikes with Practical skills “ Doing Good In MY Community ”so the young people feel happy in their learning and take ownership of their community spaces We do this in their own Communities We have 95% Achievement and Retention and 70% progress to higher levels and work

The Boathouse Project HHT assisted PIP with renting the Boathouse an old 300 year old building in Runcorn The learners gained actual work experience leading to 90% achievement. This work involved replacing and repairing fitments, walls, floors and painting and decorating the classrooms. The learners also designed and made a workshop and put a small kitchen in for their break area.

Work in progress! The learners helped to plaster the walls and made workbenches to hold tools and materials.

GARDENS PROJECT As well as learning the benefits of manual labour, The learners gained skills and experience in: Teamwork Communication Health and Safety Tool handling Horticulture Landscaping Waste disposal Job Satisfaction Problem solving Timekeeping

Work In Progress Problem solving and teamwork in action!

Disposing of Debris correctly

What a transformation!

New fencing all round!

Salon Project Learners worked alongside tradesmen and tutors to completely renovate a run down shop and transform it into a busy beauty salon.

Gaining skills

Finished and ready for business!

Flat renovations Working in conjunction with Halton Housing Trust, the learners are working alongside tradesmen and tutors to gain skills in painting and decorating whilst helping to renovate a block of flats.

Barriers Stats taken from 71 Learners We are very proud of the progression of our learners especially as they have many barriers to contend with.

Support Agencies Snapshot of learners The majority of our learners have already been involved with support agencies who also assist them in their ‘distance travelled.’ More commonly we have been told that the families are supported by Halton Housing Trust with a range of their issues not just rent and Housing issues. In 2013 and 2014 we intend to document those interventions as this has now become a Support Agency which is increasing month by month.

Progression Routes Achievement rate is good – above 95.4% Retention is good (93%) and early leavers kept to a minimum (7%) 70% Progress positively to further training or work. Learning plans link the training to employers (Since HHT supported PIP All Housing Associations now wish to offer placements for our Young people) Employers provide good quality training opportunities (Real work environments) Practical link to application of knowledge in the workplace (Work Placements for all) HHT provide all PPE ( Personal Protective equipment) to all learners and uniforms to give them a sense of belonging.

Best value to taxpayers BBC report that over a third of NEET rarely leave the house. Figures last week showed that 9% of year olds in England were classified as NEET. DWP estimate that there is an estimated cost to the taxpayer of £ for every additional young person that becomes NEET.

Two of our success stories! Two of our learners have progressed to gain Apprenticeships. Jack with Riverside Housing and Jason with Halton Housing Trust.

Next Steps PIP hopes to Trial a new Social Enterprise arm with Halton Housing Trust delivering Social Value in regard to Void Services. PIP will work in collaboration with Halton Housing Trust with its new initiative “Traineeships” for Year Olds Volunteering in their Communities. PIP will attempt to roll out this model by seeking infrastructure funding in order to support the sustainability and growth of the model. We feel this is best practice and a good example of how with creativity and true partnership challenges can be overcome and local economies can be improved.
