Assessment at HFJS Monday 5 th October 2015
September All primary year groups are to follow the new curriculum. The system of ‘levelling’ a child has been removed and schools are free to develop and help prepare children for end of Key Stage assessments and for the next stage in their education. What’s new?
There is greater focus on deepening understanding before moving on to new topics. The focus of assessment- to what extent children have developed their understanding rather than what level that shows they have achieved.
…levels failed to give parents clarity over how their children were performing… resulted in a lack of trust between primary and secondary schools. The commission will help schools develop their own, more accurate assessment systems that truly show how a child is performing in the classroom. The education system lost sight of the need for a genuine conversation between parents and schools to help parents support their children.
