History of Television Part 1 Television is a creation of several inventors, the most prominent is Philo T. Farnsworth. Philo Farnsworth's invention

1900 First known use of the word "television" at 1900 Paris Exhibition 1921 Philo T. Farnsworth, at age 14, has a vision of electronic TV scanning while plowing hay. 1935 Germany begins the "first television broadcasting service in the world".  Low resolution, few receivers.

History of Television/Video Production 1938 RCA first broadcast at World’s Fair, U.S. 1940 FCC creates the NTSC National Television Standards Committee 1941 First commercial broadcast by NBC, July 1941 December Pearl Harbor World War-II halted nearly all television broadcasting worldwide.

The time period after World War-II is considered the birth of television.  Families had saved money during the war years, and wanted to buy homes, cars and other luxuries denied them during the war.  Television sets were soon added to the 'must have' list.  The explosion of sets into the American marketplace occurred in 1948-1949.

1950-1959 was an exciting time period for television. In the USA, B&W television exploded onto the scene and next electronic color television and remote controls were used. What Things Cost in 1954: Car: $1,950 Gasoline: 29 cents/gal House: $17,500 Bread: 17 cents/loaf Milk: 92 cents/gal Postage Stamp: 3 cents Average Annual Salary: $4,700 Minimum Wage: 75 cents per hour

VCR’s? Oh where did you go? Video Technology is changing and evolving so quickly, in sixth months there will be something new. In the four years I have been teaching Video at Maple, I have seen four different versions of cameras and software. It is exciting to imagine what will be next year and the year after!
