“No person who uses the Welsh speech or language shall have or enjoy any manner of office or fees within the Realm of England, Wales or other of the King’s Dominions.” Act of Incorporation of Wales with England 1536

“Wales is a conquered country…and it is the duty of the bishops to endeavour to promote the English, in order to introduce the language…It has always been the policy of the legislature to introduce the English language into Wales.” High Courts of Justice 1733

“The Welsh language is a vast drawback to Wales and a manifold barrier to the moral progress and commercial prosperity of the people. It is not easy to over-estimate its evil effects.” Royal Commission of Enquiry into the State of Education in Wales, 1847

In 2011, two other notable developments came to fruition: The Welsh Language Measure (Wales) 2011 was passed by the Assembly; and a new national strategy for Welsh – A Living Language: A Language for Living was published.

Ebrill 2010  “SO2.8: To increase adult and community learning provision through the medium of Welsh in line with the aspirations of adult and community learning transformation”. April 2010
