Status of JAXA’s DTN activity DTN WG CCSDS Spring Meeting 2012 Shinichi Inagawa / Kiyohisa Suzuki Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency 1 CCSDS Spring Meeting 2012

 JAXA has established initial DTN nodes based on ION since Nov As ground segment node  JAXA and NASA discussed and planned “ground testing 2011” As initial DTN interoperability testing between both agencies.  JAXA and NASA completed “ground testing 2011” on Jan Focused on simulated Delayed/Disrupted communication circumstances based on actual visibility for ISS-DRTS(JAXA’s data relay satellite)-JAXA’s ground terminal. Over 125MB [size/file] file transfer used by CFDP/BP/LTP. Fixed routing (Not used CGR) Data review had completed by JAXA, NASA. 2 Overview of activity history since Spring meeting 2011 CCSDS Spring Meeting 2012

4 Test Concept for ground testing 2011 [1/3] CCSDS Spring Meeting 2012  Purpose “A precursor testing” for the DRTS/ISS flight testing  Simulated delayed and disrupted characteristics for TKSC DRTS ISS Limited visible time (15min-30min per one revolution of ISS) Occurrence of “unexpected disruption” by rainfall between DRTS and it’s ground terminal. JAXA has potential needs of mission point view.  Automatic large data transfer without effect of disruption  Automatic large data transfer without effect of invisible time caused by revolutions

5 Test Concept for ground testing 2011 [2/3] CCSDS Spring Meeting 2012 Characteristic test Concepts [1/2] Multiple simulated visibilities with multiple contacts Visibility

6 Test Concept for ground testing 2011 [3/3] CCSDS Spring Meeting 2012 Characteristic test Concepts [2/2] Multiple simulated visibilities with a single contact

7 Test Results for Ground testing 2011 [1/2] CCSDS Spring Meeting 2012 CasesOverviewGoalsResults 1DTN connection check (Application: Bping) The DTN communication is established over internet. OK 2DTN connection check (Application: Bpchat) Simple massages are exchanged in the DTN link OK 3Small-file (1MB) transfer with stable link (Application: Bpcp) Small files are sent and received by each DTN node The identicalness of the send and received files is confirmed. OK 4Medium-file (10MB) transfer in a single simulated pass (visibility) with sudden disruption. (Application: CFDP) Medium files are sent and received by each DTN node The link disruptions are simulated. The identicalness of the send and received files is confirmed. OK

8 Test Results for Ground testing 2011 [2/2] CCSDS Spring Meeting 2012 CasesOverviewGoalsResults 5Large-file (125MB) transfer in multiple simulated passes with multiple contacts. (Application: CFDP) Large files are sent and received by each DTN node The link disruptions caused by AOS/LOS are simulated. The identicalness of the send and received files is confirmed. OK 6Large-file transfer in multiple simulated passes with a single contact. (Application: CFDP) Large files are sent and received by each DTN node The link disruptions caused by AOS/LOS are simulated. The identicalness of the send and received files is confirmed. OK
