What do we mean by offender health Detainee/offender health as this related to substance misuse, mental health well-being and physical health Aims To improve the offender health in the wider sense To transmit relevant information across the CJ pathway To measure a reduction in reoffending To measure positive impacts for the NHS

Substance use Dedicated Substance Intervention Programme All detainees in Police custody are now screened for any substance /offending links. If known detainees can be –Assessed by substance recovery workers –Tested if known for Class A drug use –Considered for Restrictions on Bail (ROB)/Conditional Bail (COB) applications Information is communicate to court via an Information for Court form re suitability for ASAR, ATR or DRR

Health Worker Pilot - Outcomes 1.Reduction in –offending/severity of offending – representing to custody, –representing to A&E, 2. Numbers of –Referrals and where to –Learning difficulties/mental health/Personality Disorder. Autism –A medical need –With GP and those registered 3. Demand and nature for safe guarding/social care links 4. Identification of pathways and any issues that need to be resolved 5. IT/assessment developments required

July to Sept findings 342 assessments 80% white British and 20% spread of all ethnicity, 48 females and 294 males. IT not resovled and too many for one staff member therefore still relying on Police referral Youths a priority but access problematic Supports nurse prescribing Enables FPs to concentrate on SARC referrals and forensic assessments
