God Is Our Guide (God Is Our Everything!) Lesson 5

Brief Review Today represents our fifth installment in this fifteen part series of lessons taken from Psalm (23). Our theme for this series of lessons is “God Is Our Everything!” So far we have learned that God is our: –Leader –Provider –Rest and Refreshment –Restoration

God Is Our Guide The idea of God being our guide is found in the phrase “He leads me in paths of righteousness” found in (vs. 2) of our text. Hopefully by the end of this lesson we will discover just how wonderful of a guide our God is!

Three Questions Which road will we walk down? Will we choose to allow God to guide us? How does God guide us today?

Which Road Will We Walk Down? The Lord Himself says that there are only two roads spiritually speaking that can be walked upon in this life. (Matthew 7:13,14) We must choose if we are going to allow God to direct our steps down the narrow road leading to life or if we are going to allow the devil to guide us down the broad road leading to destruction. Special Note: If there is a desire in your heart to walk down the narrow road leading to life but you have yet to make the decision to do so, you should make that decision before it is eternally too late! (Luke 13:22-28)

Will We Choose to Allow the Lord to Guide Us? In order to for us walk down the narrow road leading to life, the Lord must lead us! Why is this so? Because the fact of the matter is we don’t know how to direct our own steps! (Jeremiah 10:23) Sadly, there are many who think they are doing what is right all by themselves, but they will find out they were wrong all along. (Proverbs 16:25)

Will We Choose to Allow the Lord to Guide Us? Is it any wonder then that we are told in Proverbs (3:5,6) not to lean on our own understanding? Truly, we should allow God to guide us because He does so with excellence! (Isaiah 28:29) And we should also allow God to guide us because He will direct our ways ALL the days of our life! (Psalm 48:14)

How Does God Guide Us Today? Does God guide us using visits from angels or a still small voice in the night or feelings and thoughts He gives us? The answer to all of the above is “No!” We are told in Scripture that God speaks to us (guides us) through His Son. (Hebrews 1:1,2)

How Does God Guide Us Today? It is through the recorded words of Jesus, along with the words of His inspired apostles (John 16:13-15), that guide us today! (II Timothy 3:16,17) This should not surprise us because in the Law of Moses such could also be said (Psalm 119:105,133).

Some Final Questions Are you on the narrow road leading to life or are you on the broad road leading to destruction? Are you seeking to direct your own steps? Are you leaning on your own under- standing? Are you allowing the Lord to be your guide by means of humbly obeying His word? If you have yet to become a child of God, why are you waiting?
