Coordinating Conjunctions Coordinating conjunctions join words or word groups that are used in the same way. FANBOYS For example: I have read Diary of a Spider and Diary of a Worm. Did you see American Idol or America’s Got Talent last night? OROR NDND OROR UTUT R ETET O

Correlative Conjunctions Correlative conjunctions are pairs of conjunctions both…andnot only…but also either…orwhether…or neither…nor For example: Both Lady Gaga and Adele are famous singers. Should I have either salad or cake for lunch? both and

Interjections An interjection is a word that expresses emotion. Aha Ouch Wow Yikes Yippee Oops Hey Hi Oops!

In addition… When interjections are used alone, they do NOT form a complete sentence, so in formal writing they are usually used as part of a sentence. However, interjections are not grammatically connected to the sentence. Their only function is to express emotion.

A few examples: Drat! I spilled my coffee! (expresses anger or annoyance) Oh dear, I’m going to be late. (expresses worry) You got 100% on the test! Wow! (expresses surprise)
