What is McCarthyism? According to Google," McCarthyism is a vociferous campaign against alleged communists in the US government and other institutions carried out under Senator Joseph McCarthy in the period Many of the accused were blacklisted or lost their jobs, although most did not in fact belong to the Communist Party."

Why the Intellectual People Left. Many writers and cartoonist left because they had been involved in a long harsh movement against Joseph McCarthy. Others left because they did not like McCarthyism and were to scared to say anything about it.

How McCarthyism Ended Historians say that McCarthyism ended when Joseph McCarthy did not win the chairmanship of the Government Committee on Operations of the Senate. Since he didn't win the election, he lost power. The media didn't have interest in him because he lost his power.
