Robbinsville High School Music in Society Mr. Westawski

Course Goals Use the Materials of Music to identify, define, analyze and discuss different musical styles. Recognize and describe the major characteristics of various styles of music. Identify examples of outstanding music from a variety of historic periods and cultures. Recognize and describe the role and influence of music in other areas of life throughout history. Identify ways culture has affected music and ways music has affected culture. Begin to understand the effect of music on social issues in the world and vice versa.

Units of Study Materials of Music (melody, rhythm, harmony, texture, etc.) Music Copyright (YouTube, downloading) Music of the World Music and Politics/Social Issues Critiquing musical performances Music in Movies and Television Music and Culture
