The Legacy of Reconstruction

To consider in order to help answer this question: Is it simply the negation of slavery? What comes with it? What is being abolished exactly? How much do you have to abolish to truly get rid of slavery/ achieve freedom? Answer for these three groups: freedmen, victorious north, white south What exactly is freedom?
