The Reverse Classroom: Developing 21 st Century Learners Presented by: Rashenah Walker

What is a Reversed Classroom?  Reverse Classroom is a methodology where instruction takes place before students enter class.  Using this method, teachers produce minute instructional videos assigned to students to watch before class.

What should be included in a video?  Videos are detailed outlines of lessons and incorporate visuals of the processes, examples, and any additional materials.  Videos can be made to include lessons for:  New material  Readings Readings  Exam Revision  Missed lessons (teacher/student)  Upon completion of a video a post-text follows to assess comprehension

What happens during class?  During class, the teacher facilitates learning by encouraging discussion, activities, and student discovery. Lapbook analyzing Ali Baba & the 40 Thieves & identifying text features

Benefits of using Reverse Classroom  Reverse classroom provides instruction that is differentiated for various learning styles and ability levels.  Use of auditory, visual, step-by-step process, & examples accommodates the needs of auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learners.  Students have access to videos at their leisure  Are able to reference material & review for exams as needed  Students can pause, rewind, and play as often as needed to accommodate learning disabilities.

Benefits of using Reverse Classroom 2  Encompasses the lower levels of learning outlined in Blooms Taxonomy  Knowledge, comprehension, and application take place during video instruction.  Within the class the teacher focuses on activating higher order thinking skills (HOTS)  Analysis, synthesis, and evaluation  Saves paper!!!!

How to create a Reverse Classroom?  There are several ways to create a Reverse Classroom  1 decide which content you feel comfortable & appropriate to present online.  Use presentation software to create a video  Camtasia Studio  Lectora  CamStudio (free)  Display online  Edmodo  Private Youtube page  Burn CDs or have students bring flash to upload in class
