Writing Prompt In a few lines of your Comp book write down what you learned yesterday about arm- span and height.

More about the METRIC!!! A Sucker Free Production by Mr. D (yeaaaaahhh, boyyyy)

It’s as easy as…  1 X 10 = ?  10 X 10 = ?  100 X 10 = ?  10  100  1,000  10,000

How about…  100 / 10 = ?  10 / 10 = ?  1 / 10 = ?  0.1 / 10 = ?  10 1111  0.1 or 1/10  0.01 or 1/100

Metric is Base 10  The metric system is based on the number 10  So it’s EASY TO USE!!!!

Metric Prefixes  Kilo-(as in kilometer or kilogram)  Hecto-  Deka-  Deci-  Centi-(as in centimeter)  Milli-(as in millimeter)

What do they mean??? KKKKilo-1000 HHHHecto-100 DDDDeka-10 DDDDeci-1/10 CCCCenti-1/100 MMMMilli-1/1000 SSSSooo… A centimeter is what fraction of a meter?

How can you remember these?  Think about this…  King  Henry  Died bybybyby  drinking  chocolate  milk  kilo (kg, kL, km, kN)  Hecto (Hg, HL, etc.)  Deka (Dg, DL, etc.)  basic unit (g, L, m, N)  deci (dg, dL, etc.)  centi (cg, cL, cm)  milli (mg, mL, mm) X

Examples K H D b d c m  50 kg = ? g  8 m = ? km  2 L = ? mL  50,000 g  km  2,000 mL

Let’s Practice  First a worksheet  Then, an activity
