2. Don’t wear baggy clothes, jewelry, scarves or earphones. These can catch on equipment and cause spills or damage.

3. Make sure that you have all materials before beginning the lab. Once you are in the lab, you should be in the lab. You can waste a lot of valuable lab time if you are unprepared.

4. Wear safety glasses during experiments involving chemicals or breakable glass. Safety glasses will protect your eyes from dangerous chemicals or flying glass.

5. Read through the entire activity so that you know what to do. A read through of the activity will clarify any questions you might have before beginning the lab.

6. Make sure the work area is clean before you begin. This will help to improve the safety of the lab. Unnecessary books and supplies can get in the way and cause accidents!

7. You only need paper, a pencil and the lab book. You only need your supplies during a lab. Anything else can get in the way and mess up the lab.

8. DO NOT begin until instructed to do so. Working ahead can lead to missing instructions. If you miss instructions, you could have to redo the parts you completed incorrectly!

9. Work quietly and carefully. Following each step carefully will help eliminate the chance of making mistakes that can be dangerous to you and others in the class.

10. Never eat or drink in the laboratory. There is the possibility that your food or drink could come in contact with dangerous substances in the lab. This could be harmful to you!

11. Do not do lab experiments at home unless instructed to do so by your teacher. Unless under supervised conditions, some labs can be very dangerous!

12. Wash your hands after being in the lab. Your hands could be contaminated with poisonous chemicals.
