defect 1. to leave one country or group for another 2. to show a bad attitude toward someone 3. to watch a horror movie with disgust Some Cuban citizens choose to defect from their country because they are unhappy with the government.
cringing 1. Betraying someone 2. Shrinking, flinching 3. Talking in a baby voice The freezing temperature of the water in the pool made me cringe.
bribe 1. A market place where goods are sold. 2. An under garment for women. 3. Money or gifts given to make a person do something wrong or something the person does not want to do. One of the boys offered his friends candy as a bribe to be voted team captain.
treason 1. A color marking made on the skin 2. A figure made with three sides 3. Betraying of one’s country by helping an enemy It would be considered treason to leave one soccer team to join the rival team.
novelty 1. a story or report 2. something new or unusual 3. a low soft sound The novelty of the new car had worn off after a month.
