Analyse Results Effect on performance of strengths and weaknesses in basketball

What we may be asked… Describe in detail, in the activity of your choice, the effect that your strengths and weaknesses will have on your overall performance

Strengths for I.O.S Dribbling Passing Set shot

Dribbling My dribbling is very effective 77% of the time in the game. Effect on whole game This allowed me to move up the court and change direction quickly, managing to dodge players and keep possession. This means that I was able to dribble with a high level of control whilst under pressure.

Passing My passing, chest and bounce passes, were very effective 88% of the time in the game. This means I was passing quickly and accurately to my team mates’ hands, this creating opportunities for players to then dribble, pass or shoot. Effect on whole game As I was passing quickly this gave my team mate more time to decide what to do with the ball and meant we could move up the court quicker. My accurate passing allowed us to keep possession of the ball. Using my bounce pass helped us attack as I could get round a defender and pass whilst my team mate cut into the basket.

Our Weaknesses Feedback from Initial Observation Schedule LAY UP(100%) in-effective

Lay Up My lay up was 100% in-effective in the game. Effect on Game As I was not confident playing the lay-up I passed to my team mates instead. My team mates were not as well positioned as myself, this often resulted in my team losing the ball. Due to my lack in confidence playing a lay-up I started using other shooting techniques even when the lay up was most appropriate. This meant that I slowed down my game momentum and gave the defence more time to get back and defend their basket making it much more difficult for me to shoot.

Knowledge of Results Table This showed that my lay up was 0% effective during games and therefore 100% in- effective.

Our Weaknesses Feedback from Initial Observation Schedule In the game situation I cannot cope with the pressure of trying to use the lay up as I am not confident in performing this complex skill. Instead I often found myself stopping and performing a set shot or passing. This is a less accurate way of shooting as I am further away from the basket and it meant that my team often lost possession.

Feedback from Movement Analysis Sheet * Technical Errors * Wrong knee driving up to the basket Correct shooting arm not extended to basket Wrist not flexed to give backspin Our Weaknesses

Technical – Wrong knee driving to the basket As I did not have the correct knee driving up to the basket this made me unbalanced. As a result I did not gain enough power to get close to the basket. This reduced my accuracy and therefore my percentage of scoring baskets.

Technical - Correct Shooting Arm Extended to Basket As I was using my left arm it meant that the ball was not in-between myself and the basket therefore the defender could easily intercept it. This meant that we lost possession.

Technical - Wrist Flexed to give Backspin As I was not flexing my wrist it meant that the ball had no backspin and therefore it was bouncing too hard off the backboard and not going in. This reduced my accuracy and meant the ball was rebounded easily by the defenders.
