Each player is responsible for defending an area (zone) in or around the key. 2-3 zone setup 3-2 zone setup zone setup

CENTRE –Last line of defence, blocking opponents shots and rebounding misses. POWER FORWARD – Frequently rebounds, especially when defending. SMALL FORWARD – Defends to the side of the key. SHOOTING GUARD – Strong defender with a strength for stealing the ball. POINT GUARD – Defends close to top of the key.

CENTRE –Receives ball and shoots close to the basket. POWER FORWARD – Good short range shot. Scores many points from rebounded missed shots. SMALL FORWARD – Aggressively attacks the defence by driving and cutting towards the basket. SHOOTING GUARD – Acts as secondary ball handler. Has ability to score from 3 point range. POINT GUARD – Leader of attack. Sets up shooting opportunities. Has reliable jump shot.

Shots outside the three point arc earn 3 points. Shots inside the three point arc earn 2 points. Shots from the free throw line are unchallenged and worth 1 point each.
