The Beginning of Mass school shootings Columbine Shooting The Beginning of Mass school shootings

Preliminary Activities Eric Harris (age 18) and Dylan Klebold (age 17)were bullied in school to the point of torment. Harris had a website on which they recorded the guns they stored as well as their feelings towards their school and society. In 1998, both boys were arrested for thievery and sent to juvenile diversion. Harris was on a psychiatric drug called Luvox, which is now known to increase violence.

The Planned Shooting Harris and Klebold planned to denonate explosives in the cafeteria, picking off students with guns as they fled from the scene. They planned on setting explosives in cars in the parking lot to detonate when police and new crews arrived.

The Shooting The main explosives set in the cafeteria failed to detonate and Harris and Klebold did not set bombs in the parking lot. They took position on a staircase and shot at students. They then went into the library and shot at students and police officers through a window.

Harris and Klebold killed 12 students and 1 teacher. They injured 21 students directly 3 more were injured while trying to escape The two boys then committed suicide with a bullet to the head.

Aftermath The massacre provoked debate in: Gun control Violent video games Bullying The nature of high school cliques The use of antidepressants in teenagers Music Do you feel the above provoke students to commit crimes or behave differently? Research and Write 3 paragraphs. Include statistics to back up your answers.
