THE RELIABILITY OF THE BIBLE
The Longevity Factor
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Matthew Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Hebrews 13.8
The Literature Factor
The Bible is not an “object” for us to study but a partner with whom we may dialogue. It is usual in our modern world to regard any “thing” as an object which will yield its secrets to us if we are diligent and discerning. We must give up the notion of the Bible as a “book” to be acted upon, analyzed, studied, and interpreted. Instead it is something alive and surging among us. Walter Brueggemann
How did Jesus viewed Scripture? Jesus replied, “You are in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God.” Matthew “... you nullify the word of God for the sake of your tradition.” Matthew 15.6 “Scripture cannot be broken.” John 10.35
The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. John For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit. John 3.34 The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. John 6.63
The Living Factor
“You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.” John
The Bible is... Not a book to be studied, but a book to be listened to and lived, Not a book to help us know more, but a book to help us become more, Not a book about, but a book for, for you.
When you read God's Word, you must constantly be saying to yourself, "It is talking to me, and about me." --Soren Kierkegaard
The Word Alive The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. Matthew 8.8 The royal official said, "Sir, come down before my child dies." Jesus replied, "You may go. Your son will live." The man took Jesus at his word and departed. John
“I am the way, the truth and life.” John 14.6
