At a glance… The magazine was first initiated in 2012 by Michael Dickey (president of Modern Luxury), and Cristina Cuomo (editor in chief of both Beach & Manhattan Modern Luxury publications) Beach is just 1of the 45 other Modern Luxury brands spanning across the United States Modern Luxury is Hosted under the management service- Cumulus Media (nations 2 nd largest broadcaster)

Continued… Beach Modern luxury magazine is geared toward the wealthiest individuals within the Hampton's area Editor in chief: cristina cuomo (husband chris cuomo of cnn) Features stories containing the latest news, world news, stores gadgets, parties, fundraisers, and other social events

Personal input I received the position as an editorial intern within the beach modern luxury brand My expectations from the beginning to the end of the experience were similar I expected- and received a great learning experience taught by a highly intellegent and inspiring staff

Typical day in the office Read over/ edit text which would be featured in the magazine each month Transcribe interviews and articles Call in products needed for stories Research prices, names, and other information needed for stories Assist on desksides and messengering services Compile & pitch new/ relevant information to be featured in the magazine

Accomplishments Assist/ add to stories for each issue (“My hamlet”, “last laugh”) Editing the staff’s projects and stories to ensure crisp, detailed writing structure Confirming current research to ensure information is accurate and up to date Assisting on desk sides and other informational meetings

challenges Balancing four summer classes with my internship needs or requests Completing each task or story for the magazine in an organized, neat, and timely manner being that publications are always on a strict deadline

Gains… Further learned how different magazines are compiled and formed for each issue Learned how to appropriately request or correspond to other companies in the request of additional information or products Perfected how to manage my time in a realistic and efficient manner

Further career goals Having the opportunity to intern at different magazine’s within these past 2 years has made me realize how important it is to have hands on experience within this field of work I am truly thrilled and constantly amazed at the processes of how a magazine is created for each issue I hope to use this extremely valuable information to eventually obtain an internship in the public relations field being that editorial and p.r. firms work hand and hand with one another

Continued… Hoping to obtain an internship in either the editorial or public relations field this spring I intend to… 1.continue practicing and perfecting my editing and writing capabilities 2. Reach out to other magazines or P.R. firms to grasp additional concepts and crucial information needed to succeed in these fields

If I had the opportunity to perform this experience again, I would not change a thing I learned how to become a more organized, efficient person not only at work, but within my personal life as well I confirmed that this is the field of work which I feel the most comfortable and rewarded in I have further developed my passion for editorial and public relations work I am motivated to attain future internship's in the editorial and public relations fields in my upcoming semesters to gain as much in- school experience as possible

Conclusion I am truly honored to be given this opportunity to intern in the editorial department at beach modern luxury magazine I will let the information which I have obtained shine through in my future internship or occupational endeavors Overall I immensely appreciative of my summer internship, in combination with this internships class’ learning intentions
