Education in the 21th century

The Hungarian Education System

Current state of ICT in education NCC (National Core Curriculum): obligatory subject „Informatics” ( = computer technology and library) Informatics (ICT) as a subject: min. 1-2 lessons per week The first curricular requirements appear in the end of 6th grade (age 12) + applications in other subjects Aim: activities to develop children’s ability, digital key competences (EU)

Conditions for the application of ICT: Since 1998: all secondary schools have full and free access to Internet + multimedia computer rooms with PCs – SULINET Programme (School-Net) Since 2005/06: all schools have Internet access – SULINET Express (launched 2002) Since 2012: 40% of classrooms with interactive whiteboards

Hungarian Association of Teachers for Informatics - non-profit organization, national legal entity Teaching information technology for adults; In-service trainings, related scientific activity and research; Safeguarding of teachers’ and the profession’s interests; Facilitating the exchange of information among educational institutions; Participation in the National Talent Program ( Providing information to and facilitating the exchange of experience of professionals working in the field Our target groups: teachers, school heads, consultants, educational researchers, people responsible for teacher-trainings and professors at pedagogical departments of universities.

Our activities Organizing events (lectures, conferences), Designing and launching accredited in-service trainings for adults; Publishing of curricula, syllabi, books, digital training materials, tutorial programs and distant learning materials related to teaching; Organizing ICT competitions for students Support for underachievers, enriching ICT Mentoring – operating a National Student Mentor network Ensuring the standard of school education and teacher in- service training regarding ICT, Collecting, designing and distributing teaching materials on methodology

Dissemination: My plans after the study-visit: expand cooperation between the teacher's association of EU- countries presentations at conferences, organization of workshops (target groups: teachers, students, educational researchers, responsibles of teacher-trainings), planning new in-service trainings, publications in educational reviews and on the web, e. g. in our review: Inspiráció (Inspiration) I would like: to exchange best practices of participant countries, to set objectives for future collaboration of schools and communities.
