Online Questionnaires: Design issues

Some issues to consider: Consistency – screen size, browsers etc Accessibility and standards Colour, layout and text appearance Use of images and multi-media stimuli Single or multiple-paged questionnaires Some examples follow…

Design issues Screen size – A questionnaire question at 3 common screen sizes 1024x768 All visible 800x600600x480

Design issues Colour – the potential effects of colour variance where web-safe colours are not used. The colour scheme may appear to be suitable on the designer's machine, but may render differently on other computer screens.

Design issues Colour – Web safe colours. 216 colours that are not subject to variation on different types of monitors and systems. The following link shows these colours organised by hue (colour) or value (lightness). (opens in new window)

Design issues Layout The following questionnaire layout (from a genuine example on the web) was produced using questionnaire production software. The 'matrix' layout makes the information unclear.

Design issues Text appearance - Genuine example of a welcome page (the subject is the only thing that has been changed)
