Today 3.1 How can members participate in the work of the union? What is a shop steward and and what do they do?

Participating in Union Action Attending union meetings – members can go along and put their views forward. These meetings are normally held at lunchtime or the end of the day. Taking part in Industrial action – if the union has voted for particular action e.g go-slow, members should take part to enable the action to be as effective as possible

Participating in Union Action Electing the shop steward – this involves voting for the person you want to represent you at your workplace Being the shop steward – some keen members may wish to put themselves forward as Union representatives
