Terrorists strike America EQ: What events have occurred as a result of 9/11 (War on Terrorism)?

September 11, 2001 On the morning of 9/11, our world changed Terrorists hijacked four airplanes 9/11 Attacks: Terrorist attacks on World Trade Center in NY and the Pentagon in D.C.

They flew 2 of them into 2 of the world’s tallest buildings at the World Trade Center in New York City Before 9/11 After 9/11 On 9/11

Another plane smashed into the Pentagon building in Washington, D.C.

Passengers on the 4 th plane fought with the terrorists and it crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.

Response to 9/11 President George W. Bush decided that America would fight back. He committed to a War on Terrorism in response to the events of September 11 Besides finding the people responsible for the attack, he wanted to prevent terrorist activities all over the world. Video.php?video_id=125521&title=9_11_T ribute&vpkey War on Terrorism: America’s response To the attacks on 9/11

War on Terrorism would include: Increasing America’s security Searching for terrorists Destroying camps where terrorists are trained Forming alliances with other countries to fight terrorism Dealing with countries that let terrorists live there Finding out who gives terrorists money Putting America’s military into position for military action

Patriot Act To prevent and punish terrorist acts in the USA and around the world roviding ppropriate ools equired to ntercept and bstruct errorism

The enemy Osama bin LadenAmerica’s first step was to find Osama bin Laden: terrorist believed to have planned the 9/11 attack Al-QaedaThe U.S. military moved into Afghanistan to look for him and for members of his terrorist group, Al-Qaeda: international organization of terrorists responsible for the 9/11 attacks The military destroyed many terrorist camps there but did not capture bin Laden.

Then, the War on Terrorism moved into Iraq. The Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, was suspected of helping terrorists. He also refused to fully cooperate with the UN when they wanted to send inspectors to Iraq to look for powerful weapons. The U.S. government was afraid he would give those weapons to terrorists.

Troops from the U.S. and other nations entered Iraq in March The Iraqi government fell quickly and Hussein was captured in Dec Iraq was now free from a brutal dictator! Many soldiers remained in Iraq to help establish a new democratic government.
