Campaign Review

Campaigns Policy Policy shift away from response to specific planning proposals towards: getting local politicians aware of cyclist’s issues pushing cycling up the transport agenda integration of cycle transport into planning process Using campaign resources and branding provided by CTC/Cyclenation: Space for Cycling Why? Consultation from council officers is now non-existent Failings of recent projects to incorporate cycle transport Consultation responses ignored Requests for information ignored Council officers take their policy direction from councillors

Current Campaigns Space for Cycling Objective: Cross party support for cycle transport with policy objectives Promoting our objectives for cycle transport within the council Four letters to councillors – they are informed 3 councillors signed up – not enough Offers of meetings from Conservatives, Labour & UKIP A38 Junction Improvements: NCN6 upgrade along A61 & better link with Ford Lane Cycle routes both sides of Kingsway & Queensway Retention of all signal controlled crossings Replacement of “curly bridge” Derwent Valley Cycleway - DCG provides support to the DVC group: Website and set up Contacts and Knowledge to assist DVC’s work Sharing stalls (DVC is a great talking point; masses of interest)

What We Did Cycle Count June 2014 (John Palmer): Total count up 29% from 2004 Some places up over 70% Access link to Velodrome from Riverside Path - built 20mph zones installed: Darley Abbey, Chester Green (NB) Mickleover: cycle path linking new housing with schools & shops (NB) A61 & Raynesway cycle paths – hedge/vegetation clearance Protest at London Road Rail Bridge opening & council Numpty award Wish List Deliveries Velodrome at Derby Arena - open Railway Station: 50 cycle parking spaces on platform 1 Full Street & Amen Alley contra-flow cycling

Events Purpose: Meet cyclists, discuss issues, provide information Sign new members Publicise the Group Roger Geffen, CTC Campaigns Director - Guest Evening In DCG held a stall at: Belper Goes Green Big Cycle Day Out 23 new members on a wet and miserable day Park Bikeworks – police marking day Velodrome open day Supporting Our Work CTC affiliation – giving public liability insurance for events To enable rides and participation in our and other people’s events Attendance at CTC cycle campaigning training events Creating a DCG prioritised wish list

Coming Up A38 Junctions – continuing consultation A52 Widening – cycle path under threat Derwent flood relief project Scope for cycle route improvements But more scope for city council to get it wrong Disruption to existing cycle routes T12 link road – access to Infinity Park Infinity Park – routes to it and facilities at buildings on it Missed Opportunities London Road Rail Bridge - all that is bad about the city council planning No cycle paths or lanes No crossing to get access to Litchurch Lane Not including cycle route development as part of road maintenance: Bridge St/Agard St; London Road reconstruction; Castleward Failing to deliver LTP3’s “balanced approach to transport planning” It’s our job to make them raise their game

DCG Cycle Strategy for Derby Your Chance: What would you like to see for cyclists in Derby? Strategic ideas Major projects Moderate schemes Small scale Talk about it Stick labels on the maps to show where things need to be done Write out your ideas on one of our forms. We will collate everything together into an overarching strategy
