Suzanne Collins Author Research: Compiled by Scholastic Publishing

The New York Times Researchers Needed!! Given the recent success of Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games trilogy, Scholastic Publishing Company has decided to release an expanded edition of the fist novel in the series, The Hunger Games. The new book will reveal several story lines omitted from the original version and much more information about the author behind the best selling series. Mrs. Collins has already agreed to contribute several expanded chapters to the re-release, but does not have time to write an “Author's Note.” Scholastic is in need of a team of researchers to compile information about the author and her inspiration for writing the dystopian novel.

Congratulations!!! After reviewing several applications, Scholastic has decided that you are the most qualified candidate for the research position. Many people applied for the job, but after reviewing your resume Scholastic said there was really no competition.

The Task Scholastic has several staff writers in mind to pen the new release's “Introduction” but they need your research skills to gather the information. Using the websites provided, you will complete a graphic organizer for the writer to use as the basis for their “Introduction.” You will not be writing the actual introduction.

Research Topics The Hunger Games has experienced a large amount of recent success, but its author is not new to the world of writing and its inspirations are recoded in annals of time. With this in mind, Scholastic has decided the following topics will need to be researched: Author’s History and Background Author’s Previous Works – Include previous television work Author’s Inspirations

Completing the Research In order to speed the new “Introduction” to press, Scholastic has already searched through the multitude of information on the World Wide Web and located the information they need. Your job is simply to complete the research form so that staff writers will have everything they need to create the “Introduction.” This following slides contain links to all of the information you will need.

The Links The following links are categorized by research topic. However, some sites may contain information that is relevant to more than one topic. All categories will have a sufficient amount of links for the information needed, but feel free to pull facts from all of the sources given to you.

The Finishing Touches Make sure that you have completely filled out your recording sheet and that all areas of research have been fully explored. Remember that some sites are useful for more topics than the one they are recommended for.

A Job Well Done! Scholastic would like to thank you for all of your hard work! This project would not have been possible without the excellent assistance of this research team. We look forward to working with you in the future!
