Bot fly

 Definition: chronic infectious parasitic disease of equine caused by larvae (bot) or adult worm of gastrophillus, characterised by chronic gastritis, loss of condition  Etiology: larvae or adult fly of gastrophillus G. nasalis, G. intestinalis, G. haemorrhoidlis

 Distribution : wide distributed, present in Egypt  Species affected: all species of equine  Incidence: summer

egg Ingest larvae through licking of leg Migrate to stomach and some larvae migrate to brain, heart, lung Pass with faeces after month Change to adult

 Emaciation and colic  Shying and head tossing due to fly annoyance  When the larvae present in rectum occurs itching and prolapse to rectum

 Congestion, swelling and hemorrhage in stomach

 Direct detection of eggs on the hair in summer  Detection of larvae in faeces

 Rectal ename by water and soap for removal of larvae adhering on rectal mucosa  ivermectin

 Grooming of animal, clipping of hairs and burning it  Prophylactic treatment by anthelmentic
