La Feria ISD

When a student or staff is experiencing signs and symptoms of a medical emergency for example:

 Difficulty breathing or ongoing shortness of breath  Severe chest or abdominal pain or pressure  Chest pain that radiates to the jaw or down one arm  Loss of consciousness  Intense and uncontrolled pain  Sudden dizziness or weakness  Confusion or change in mental status, personality  Head, neck, back injury  Injury to the eyes or ears  Breathing difficulty  Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)  Bleeding that doesn’t stop  Severe or persistent vomiting  Coughing up or vomiting blood  Sudden weakness on one side of the body  Broken bone  Severe burns  Suicidal thoughts or behavior  Foreign object in throat

Follow these steps:

Notify the staff closest to you that is trained in CPR/First Aid. (See the hearts on the below map to locate those closest to you).

The staff trained in CPR/First Aid has the authority to activate 911. They will designate someone by pointing and saying,” Call 9-1-1, and call the office to bring the AED.”

The office will send the closest AED, the emergency bag, the nurse, and the principal. Stay with them until help arrives. The principal or designee will notify the parent.

Please refer to your campus web page for an updated copy of your school’s medical emergency response plan.
