Finance & Investment Club Fall Updates From the Week 2.How do you make Sector Meetings Interesting / How to maintain attendance 3.Tips For This Week’s Meeting 4.Deliverables upcoming senior Analyst Forum #2

Updates From The Week / Making Sector Meetings Interesting?  How many Junior Analysts are actually coming to your individual sectors?  To be put into the common google doc: – Has everyone settled on a common meeting time? – Has everyone spoken to reservations regarding booking a room?  How is everyone doing on selecting an industry and 6-8 companies?  How was everyone’s first (and maybe second) meetings?  Does anyone feel that their Junior Analysts are uninterested in the club? –What would you tell them to stay in?  Anyone Have any recommendations on how to make their meeting exciting? ResearchCollaborationAction

Recommendations For Making Sector Meetings Interesting 1.Make an Agenda to Follow for Structural purposes 2.Emphasize or focus on teaching the junior analysts at least one new thing each week 3.Reinforce reasons to stay in the club (ideas?) 4.Ask for feedback from your JA’s on the club, the meetings 5.Do not keep your JA’s for a full hour if they need to be 6.Communicate effectively before and after the meeting, so the JA’s know expectations 7.Use Humor (Play Music? Ideas?)

Tip #1  This week it may be beneficial to teach them how to do a quick walkthrough of the “industry” tab on yahoo.com/finance.  This is a way of creating your Industry Breakdown Slide (remember from Xun’s recommendation last week).  Also an opportunity to show how to find related companies / competitors. NOTICE IT PROVIDES SOME INDUSTRY AVERAGE RATIOS GOOGLE HAS COMPETITORS TOO

Tip #2 – BUSINESS SECTION 10-K  It is easy to introduce sections of the 10-K gradually in order for the JA’s to better understand the primary source of information for equity research.  This week I would recommend having the JA’s receive a walkthrough of what the business section is in the 10-K and what it says (maybe use a sample to describe it all).  I would then have the JA’s read 10-Ks of relevant companies in the sector you are in in order for them to understand better, perhaps have them share with you what they found or thought was interesting You could also introduce the risks factors section of the 10-K as this area will allow you to even better understand the company and how it functions (at your discretion)

Tip #3  Share your personal experience regarding the Your Future In Finance Conference. Many of your JA’s most likely did not attend and it is a good opportunity to emphasize the network and connections that you gained from attending BUFC related events. »Some of your JA’s may have attended, in which case you could ask them what they thought about the conference.
